About the role

JMT's Virginia Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g., H1B, F1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades, and/or pavement to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
  • Gather and maintain record documents.
  • Make field notes and computations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
  • 1-4 years of Construction Inspection Experience.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Active driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Client-requested certifications:
    • VDOT: Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt I & II, Pavement Marking, GRIT
    • DEQ: E&S and SWM Inspector
    • Intermediate Workzone
    • Nuclear Safety
    • ACI-Concrete Field Tech

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in the field.
  • Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed.
  • Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Pay

Compensation for this position is $30.00 - $36.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.
