Transportation Construction Inspector

This Transportation Construction Inspector role is part of our South Carolina Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team, available in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Beaufort, SC. You will inspect earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures for conformance to plans and specifications. Responsibilities include material sampling and testing, calculations, computations, and contract documentation duties such as field measurements of pay items and other required documentation. Night and/or weekend work may be required as dictated by client project needs.
Responsibilities
- Inspect earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures for conformance to plans and specifications
- Perform material sampling and testing, calculations, and computations
- Handle contract documentation duties, including field measurements of pay items and other required documentation
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction inspection
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must successfully pass drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions
- Skills in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications
- Ability to take notes, prepare or review reports, and communicate effectively
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections
- Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law
- SCDOT certifications, other DOT certifications, or the ability to obtain them
- Local candidates preferred
