About the role

Transportation Associates will perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities, conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs, and operate multiple vehicle types based on business need to support Amazon’s transportation network.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to company rules and regulations to ensure safety.
  • Follow and enforce safety measures and policies to all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members.
  • Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers, as needed, to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and to maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in the yard to move trailers to/from docks and parking locations.
  • Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies, procedures of those DOT regulations.
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks at appropriate times in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations, adhere to yard safety policies, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions.
  • Serve as a peer trainer and/or work at nearby site locations within the area.
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment (pallet jack, etc.).

Requirements

  • Valid and active driver’s license.
  • High School or equivalent diploma.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, reach and ascend/descend stairs.
  • Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required.
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.

Qualifications

  • Basic qualifications: High school or equivalent diploma, valid driver’s license, 21 years of age or older, ability to lift up to 49 pounds, stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and be able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications, Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences, experience building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.

If requested due to business need, Transportation Associates must obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Driver Qualification File (DQF) and utilize it as a condition of the role, paid for by Amazon. If Associate is requested to become CDL and DQF certified to drive Over-the-Road for Amazon, this position becomes regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and follows regulations issued by the DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Candidate must hold a valid driver’s license for the state in which they reside and be eligible to drive in accordance with DOT requirements. The timing of this requirement is dependent on business need. Continuing in the position with CDL and DQF certification is contingent upon the successful completion of a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening, a DOT physical and Amazon’s pre-employment drug test.
