Transportation and Highway Technical Manager

About the role

Fisher Associates is seeking a Transportation & Highway Technical Manager / Civil Engineer to provide senior-level technical leadership on highway and roadway design projects throughout Upstate New York.

Responsibilities

• Deliver transportation projects that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life in local communities.
• Foster a high-performing, motivated team through clear expectations, constructive feedback, mentoring, and career development.
• Oversee the design and execution of highway engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements.
• Serve as a technical lead, guiding the team on best practices, decisions, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Implement and oversee quality control processes and conduct technical audits to ensure high standards.
• Maintain effective communication with project managers, clients, and cross-functional teams.
• Ensure effective resource allocation, adequate staffing, and utilization to meet project and team goals.
• Aid in recruiting top engineering talent who align with the team’s technical excellence and company culture.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance.
• Stay current with transportation design trends and emerging technologies, integrating them into project solutions.
• Contribute to the organization's technical strategy and help forecast future technical needs.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
• 8-15 years’ experience in transportation, roadway, or highway engineering
• Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred or ability to obtain it
• Prior staff management preferred
• Proficiency in MS Office; MicroStation preferred
• Familiarity with NYSDOT design standards preferred

Pay

$110,000 - $175,000 annually
