Responsibilities
Medical Transport
- Utilize emergency medical technician clinical skills, medical terminology, and ORC Emergency Vehicle Operation laws to transport patients
- Independently assess department needs and respond within EMT scope of practice
- Maintain current driver's license and good driving record (points not to exceed 5)
- Maintain current national registry, Ohio, and Kentucky EMS certification
- Maintain a clear record of incidents in a CCHMC vehicle
- Turn in all fuel slips and required documentation per standard operating procedure
- Demonstrate compliance with physical requirements of lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 150 lbs
Safety
- Foster an environment that prevents accident, illness, and injury and strives for continuous improvement
- Ensure crew, family, and patients adhere to safety requirements while in a moving vehicle
- Keep the work environment organized, safe, accessible, effective, and efficient for patients, families, and coworkers
- Report malfunctioning equipment and other environmental hazards immediately
- Anticipate change in needs based on volume
- Ensure proper working conditions of patient care and unit equipment
Communication
- Promote open and timely communication with all members of the health care team, patients, family members, and visitors
- Report to nursing staff any change in observable response to patient's condition
- Respond promptly to requests by patients, families, and employees
- Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of patients, families, and employees
- Discuss concerns of work situation with director or designee
Confidentiality
- Act in a manner that maintains confidentiality, protects, and safeguards patient/family personal medical and financial information at all times during collection, use, and storage
- Access only information and records necessary to perform the responsibilities of your position
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of work experience in a related job discipline
- Current Ohio EMT-Basic or equivalent certification
- Obtain Kentucky EMT-Basic certificate within 6 months of hire
- Obtain National Registered EMT within 6 months of hire
- Current driver's license & good driving record must be maintained (points not to exceed 5)
- Current CPR Certification
Pay
Starting pay range: $19.29 - $23.92 per hour. Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on-call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.
