Transplant Anesthesiologist

Academic Staff position in the School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Transplant Anesthesiology. This role is a dual appointment with UW Madison and UW Medical Foundation.

About the role

This is a position for a transplant anesthesiologist primarily to provide clinical anesthesia care with teaching opportunities to residents, fellows, and medical students. If appointed on the CHS track, duties will also include education, scholarly activity, and research components. This position is full or part-time (75-100% FTE) and requires work to be completed onsite at a designated campus work location.

Applicants will be considered for the following titles, determined by experience and qualifications: Clinical Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Professor (CHS), Associate Professor (CHS), or Assistant Professor (CHS).

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years thereafter.

Responsibilities

• For appointment to CHS track:
  • Major teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students in the operating room and didactic sessions, with a primary emphasis on general anesthesia procedures and techniques or subspecialty training.
  • Provision of clinical anesthetic care to surgical patients, including working in the operating room and taking evening and weekend call, in an anesthesia team model or personally performed anesthesia.
  • Opportunity for participation in clinical research for interested candidates.
• For appointment to the Clinician Teacher (CT) track:
  • Provision of clinical anesthetic care to surgical patients, including working in the operating room and taking evening and weekend call, in an anesthesia team model.
  • Teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Participation in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.

Requirements

• WI medical license by the start date of the position.
• Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology by the start date of the position.
• MD or DO, or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications

• For appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on the CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment.
• For appointment at Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on the CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment.
