Transmission Work Planner

About the role

We are looking for an energetic Transmission Work Planner who enjoys working outdoors, values independence, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance
    • Identify and report safety hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
    • Follow AMS safety standards, including safe driving, wildfire prevention, and injury prevention protocols.
    • Promote AMS values in daily actions and encourage others to do the same.
  • Field Operations
    • Safely drive to work sites and hike rights-of-way (up to 10 miles/day).
    • Inspect and document vegetation work (pruning/removal) at customer properties.
    • Record vegetation data using tablets and specialized software.
    • Use forestry computer systems for data entry and tracking.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Relations
    • Address customer concerns and complaints regarding vegetation work promptly.
    • Communicate effectively with leadership, auditors, clients, contractors, landowners, and the public.
    • Maintain positive public relations through professional conduct.
  • Emergency Response & Other Responsibilities
    • Participate in storm and emergency response duties as needed.
    • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of tree species identification, hazard tree assessment, invasive species management, and understanding of tree growth patterns.
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or Natural Resources OR one year of Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) experience.
  • Ability to hike/walk rights-of-way (ROW’s) and drive for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledgeable about Utility Vegetation Management practices.
  • Experience with GIS software/technology, Microsoft Suite, and iPhone.
  • Ability to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem-solving and multi-tasking abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ISA or equivalent certification.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Working Environment

Work is primarily outdoors in field environments, including remote locations, urban settings, and energy corridors near power lines or pipelines. Conditions include:

  • Walking/hiking up to 10 miles daily on varied terrain (flat, dry, wet, slippery, rocky, sandy, uneven, steep, or densely vegetated).
  • Exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, extreme weather (snow, ice, fog, humidity, high/low temperatures), hazardous traffic, animals, insects, and poisonous plants.
  • Low-light conditions, working alone or with a team, and occasional indoor office work.

Physical Demands

  • Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment.
  • Walk up to 10 miles/day, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, running, crawling, climbing, reaching, twisting, and grasping.
  • Repetitive hand, arm, and shoulder movements (e.g., forcefully beating down brush).
  • Carry, push, or pull light to heavy weights (frequently up to 10 lbs., occasionally up to 60 lbs.).
  • Operate field equipment (handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, traffic cones).
  • Verbal communication and normal range of vision/hearing (with or without correction).
