Transmission System Manager, AWS Energy Team

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Power Engineering, or a related field
• Experience in managing multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
• Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
• 3+ years of experience in transmission planning, power systems analysis, or a related energy discipline
• Hands-on experience with power flow analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSCAD, TARA or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Power Engineering, or a related field
• Experience working with RTOs/ISOs (e.g., PJM, MISO, WECC, SPP, ERCOT) on transmission interconnection or planning studies
• Familiarity with renewable energy integration, generation interconnection processes, and large load interconnection
• Experience supporting data center, hyperscaler, or large industrial load growth initiatives
• Proficiency in GIS tools and data management platforms for transmission system visualization

Key job responsibilities

• Build, develop, and maintain transmission planning models to support Amazon's energy growth strategies
• Conduct in-house power flow transmission studies, including generation deactivation and load addition analyses
• Analyze and mitigate transmission constraints in collaboration with internal teams (Energy, Procurement, Infra Energy, Real Estate, Design Engineering, Field Engineering) and external stakeholders (Utilities, RTOs)
• Perform technical due diligence assessments on power connection options, evaluating costs, timelines, and key risks for proposed power projects
• Agregate and manage datasets from multiple sources to deliver comprehensive insights on energy projects, supporting decision-making in renewable energy integration and load capacity planning
• Cook up and manage relationships with consultants and external partners through contractual documents and agreements

About the role

The AWS Energy Team works across AMER to supply reliable and carbon-free energy to our data centers. The team is seeking a results-orientated individual to join as a Transmission Systems Manager. In this role you will lead transmission planning activities that allow AWS to identify sites for renewable energy projects and power supply opportunities for existing and future AWS data centers. This role provides an opportunity for a technically minded individual to further advance their career within the clean energy sector.
