Transmission Project Manager III - Project Management Controls

Responsibilities

• Review Project documents for clarity and completeness, including scope documents, project plans, contracts, equipment and construction bid packages, requisitions, Bills of Material, Material Requests for Issue, Task Authorizations, and Engineering Work Requests.
• Review Project and contract budgets for adequacy and completeness; initiate and ensure budget revisions are documented when required.
• Ensure change management protocols are followed to document changes in scope, schedule, and costs.
• Provide recurring and ad-hoc project status reports addressing scope, budget, schedule, risks, issues, and mitigation strategies.
• Obtain concurrence from affected departments to support proposed schedules and resource requirements.
• Review and approve Project Plans.
• Validate project estimates, including contingency.
• Develop, with input from the project team, the strategic and tactical execution plan for the project.
• Monitor and/or report contractor resource levels.
• Ensure adequacy of Project Team membership and participation.
• Oversee the activities of consultants and contractors assigned.
• Understand contract terms and associated documentation of services under the contract/purchase order.
• Upon mobilization to the site, review applicable topics in the Service Contractor Orientation/Evaluation Checklist with the contractor.
• Responsible for the quality assurance and control program, including identification of quality requirements, responsibility for QA program (Energy Delivery’s or Contractor’s), and review/approval of contractor-provided procedures.
• Communicate Project goals, priorities, and decisions to the Region/Corporate Leadership Team.
• Ensure Project challenge meetings, peer reviews, and assessments are performed.
• Work with Project Controls to develop and update the Project schedule.
• Identify and notify the Project Team of additional resources or requirements necessary to meet Project scope or schedule.
• Ensure close-out and lessons-learned protocols are completed.
• Participate in audits of completed projects to evaluate whether identified objectives and benefits have been realized.

An employee hired at the Transmission Project Manager IV level will perform all the above responsibilities with greater proficiency and independence, including:

• Managing projects of increasing complexity with guidance as needed from the Manager.
• Handling any project in the portfolio to acquire breadth of knowledge and experience, progressing toward subject matter expertise.

Requirements

Transmission Project Manager III:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management, or related field is required. Minimum of 3 years’ related experience.
• In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to applicants with 7 years of related experience or 5 years of transmission experience.
• Related experience includes project organization, engineering, finance, construction, project management, planning, or project controls.
• Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and control multiple tasks.
• Experience with project management tools such as Primavera, MS Project, etc., with related Scheduling/Resource Planning expertise preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical ability.
• Must be a team player willing to work in a team environment.
• Willingness to travel to assigned project locations throughout the service territory.

Transmission Project Manager IV:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Construction Management, or related field is required. Minimum of 5 years’ related experience.
• In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to applicants with 10 years of related experience or 7 years of transmission experience.
• Related experience includes project organization, engineering, finance, construction, project management, planning, or project controls.

Pay

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on location. The estimated pay range for this role is $77,350–$139,800. For certain locations, including the state of New Jersey, the pay range includes a 20% differential to account for increased cost of living, making the range $92,820–$167,760.
