Transmission Project Manager

Role summary / purpose

The Project Manager 2 will develop and manage customer-focused transmission projects for large-scale clients such as technology centers and industrial facilities requiring power capacity of 20 megawatts and higher. This role takes projects from the select gate phase through conceptual engineering, detailed development, estimation, initial scheduling and prepares for implementation at initiate gate.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop transmission-fed projects for large-scale industrial clients requiring 20+ megawatts of power
  • Ensure sufficient scope, detail, and accuracy to support project initiation
  • Develop and maintain accurate and complete project estimates to support decision-making
  • Create and manage adequate project schedules to support planning and implementation phases
  • Conduct site field visits at onset of the project lifecycle (approximately 10% travel)
  • Initiate project schedules in Primavera P6
  • Manage project financials and reporting through Ecosys
  • Coordinate with engineers, project control specialists and cross-functional teams to ensure project success

Requirements - education & experience

  • 9 years of project management experience
  • Experience with transmission electric utility projects (critical requirement)
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (business or technical field)

Required skills

  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Project management principles
  • Valid driver's license for site field visits

Nice-to-have / preferred skills

  • Master's degree
  • Experience with Ecosys financial management system
  • Proficiency in Power BI for reporting and analytics
  • Excel skills
  • Experience with SharePoint lists for documentation and collaboration
  • Background in scheduling
  • PMP or CAPM Certification
  • Utility Technical Certifications/Training
  • Professional Engineer License

Employment details - type, location, hours

  • Type: Full-time, standard business hours
  • Location: Hybrid model - 3 days onsite at Charlotte, NC; service territory spans Durham, NC to Clemson, SC region
  • Work Schedule: Occasional field visits during business hours with technology leveraged to reduce field travel
  • Travel Requirements: Approximately 10% travel for site field visits within service territory, typically day trips
  • PPE: Standard utility industry PPE required for site visits (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, high-visibility vest)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

Growth & development opportunities

This position is part of a specialized group handling high-capacity transmission projects. You will work with senior PMs and cross-functional utility teams, gaining hands-on experience with Primavera P6 and deep understanding of electric utility transmission systems. This role offers more technical project management depth than typical PM positions.
