Transmission Line - Project Manager

About the Role

WSP is seeking a Transmission Line Project Manager for positions in Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Colorado, Idaho, and Texas. The successful candidate will manage technical, schedule, quality, and financial aspects of Power and Energy Transmission Line projects, develop client relationships, and market WSP’s Power Delivery services. This role involves periodic travel to WSP and/or client offices for face-to-face meetings.

Responsibilities

• Provide project management leadership for high voltage and EHV Transmission Line projects, ensuring adherence to company, regional, and national business line goals throughout the project lifecycle (proposal, planning, execution, reporting, and closeout).
• Ensure project delivery meets or exceeds corporate and client standards for quality, timeliness, and financial performance.
• Address current and future project management challenges with innovative and pragmatic solutions in a dynamic business environment.
• Oversee project budgets, forecasts, margins, KPIs, risk contingencies, and contractual obligations to meet client expectations.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with project stakeholders at all levels and report on project progress.
• Guide pursuit and initiation activities, including "Go/No-Go" decisions, contract reviews, risk mitigation, and pricing strategies.
• Lead or participate in contract negotiations and client presentations.
• Drive technical reviews, select qualified staff, and ensure adherence to QA/QC plans.
• Provide strategic advice to clients and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Manage and mentor assigned staff, ensuring performance and leadership.
• Update system and process documentation, including Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan.
• Lead project kick-off meetings and coordinate resource and subcontracting requirements with area/technical managers.
• Maintain regular client communications, reporting on monthly status, safety incidents, and major issues impacting scope and budget.
• Participate in problem project reviews, identify root causes, and assist in developing recovery plans.
• Ensure regular project reporting to clients, technical areas, and business unit managers, highlighting emergent issues.
• Complete formal project closeout activities and facilitate lessons-learned meetings with key project staff.
• Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to deliver "trusted advisor" services and future-ready solutions.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and exercise responsible, ethical decision-making regarding company resources.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field within the Power & Energy Market.
• 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in a project management role within the Power Delivery/Utility Industry.
• Minimum of 5 years of industry experience working with or providing engineering services for IOUs, IPPs, Co-Ops, Munis, etc.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience leading engineering and/or construction teams on medium to large electrical utility-scale projects for high voltage and/or extra high voltage transmission lines.
• Knowledge and experience with project management processes and tools, including:

  • Schedule Management (including CPM project schedules such as Primavera P6 or equivalent)
  • Financial Management
• Highly proficient understanding of project delivery processes within the Power Delivery/Utility industry.
• Advanced analytical, organizational, and business acumen skills to bridge project management and business objectives.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess and apply project management principles effectively.
• Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to interact persuasively and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels.
• Excellent self-leadership, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently and provide guidance to mid-level and senior team members while adhering to QA/QC standards.
• Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software (e.g., MS Office suite, SharePoint), and PM tools.
• Ability to elicit cooperation from diverse stakeholders, including senior management and external partners.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and hours to meet project-specific needs.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• Essential project management certification (e.g., PMP, CAP-M).
• Professional Engineer (PE) License.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $120,000 - $160,000. WSP USA reserves the right to adjust compensation and benefits based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity, as well as geographic location.

Expected salary range (Colorado only): $120,000 - $160,000.
