About the Role
GFT is seeking a Transmission Line Designer to join our Power Business Group. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement for candidates in Charlotte, NC; Roanoke, VA; Marlton, NJ; Pittsburgh, PA; St. Louis, MO; Chicago, IL; or Phoenix, AZ, and may be fully remote for other locations. The power team at GFT works on cutting-edge projects involving power transmission, distribution, and renewable energy, utilizing advanced technologies to enhance system reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Perform transmission line engineering project designs for utility, industrial, renewable, and developer clients under general supervision
- Execute assignments of limited scope applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in related design engineering tasks
- Model, analyze, and design transmission line segments using PLS-CADD software
- Perform structural analysis of transmission line structures
- Perform structural and electrical calculations supporting broader engineering activities involving equipment, components, structures, or systems
- Conduct feasibility studies, routing studies, and EMF calculations to support project planning
- Prepare studies, reports, and comprehensive construction packages including structure details, material lists, staking tables, plan and profiles, and stringing charts
- Gather and record information for the preparation of technical specifications
- Evaluate vendor submissions to assure compliance with specifications
- Prepare first draft of technical reports or sections of larger reports
- Review design drawings within defined limits
- Perform investigations, measurements, and collect field data
- Perform 3-D modeling of transmission lines and structures
- Coordinate design and review specifications with other groups within GFT to complete projects
Qualifications
- BS in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred; other engineering fields such as Electrical or Industrial will be considered)
- 1 to 3 years of applicable experience
- Familiarity with AutoCAD
- Proficient knowledge of Design Software (PLS, FAD tools)
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- In-depth knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards related to transmission line design
- Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting is strongly preferred
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills

Pay
The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
