Position Overview
NV5 is seeking a Transmission Line Design Intern to support our overhead transmission engineering team. This role offers direct exposure to high-voltage transmission line projects and the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on active utility programs.
Responsibilities
- Support development of transmission line design deliverables, including plan & profile drawings and structure spotting
- Aid in engineering inputs for line design, including loading criteria, sag-tension data, and basic structural considerations
- Work with industry-standard tools such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and GIS platforms
- Review and interpret survey data, LiDAR, and topographic mapping to support alignment and design decisions
- Cook with internal NV5 teams across engineering, survey, geospatial, and ROW to support integrated project execution
- Assist in preparation of engineering calculations, design summaries, and technical documentation
- Organize project files and deliverables
- Participate in project coordination meetings
- Perform site visits as required for active projects
Qualifications
- Desired Skills:
- Foundational understanding of utility systems and transmission lines
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS tools, or similar engineering/design software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and general data management
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a delivery-focused environment
- Effective communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
- Education/Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in school pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical or electrical Engineering
- Familiarity with Civil 3D and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Prior internship, coursework, or project experience related to infrastructure or energy is a plus

Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this California position is $26.00- $30.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate.
