About the role
We are seeking an experienced Transmission Grid Engineer - Lead to join our team. This role focuses on system research on electrical power grid infrastructure analysis with a focus on grid resilience.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support complex research projects with competing priorities and implement advanced research concepts in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Partner with other LLNL scientists and engineers to bring research results to practical use in LLNL Global Security programs.
- Collaborate with other CIR program area leads in developing the CIR program research roadmap.
- Develop internal and external collaborations and provide input for securing funding sources to meet program goals and objectives.
- Co-author refereed scientific papers and reports and deliver presentations for audiences internal and external to LLNL.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: power transmission grid operation and analysis including unit commitment, economic dispatch, and production cost modeling.
- Advanced record of technical achievements in power systems engineering via peer-reviewed technical publications or successful project leadership.
- Advanced level experience in the Independent System Operator (ISO) industry.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, document work, prepare and present successful proposals and high-quality research papers, and provide advice to management.
- Ability to use standard programming languages to support modeling, analysis and visualization of power transmission grids and its components and control systems.
Additional Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (desired).
- Experience working with Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DoD) and other relevant federal and state government agencies (desired).
Pay
$175,530 - $267,060 Annually
