About the Role

This position supports the Vegetation Management (VM) team by assisting in the planning, execution, and oversight of VM programs. The role involves training and learning various aspects of Transmission and Distribution vegetation management, including customer experience, escalated issues, quality assurance, financial impacts, storm restoration, herbicide use, and NERC compliance. The Forester will help develop procedures and processes for the VM organization. Service territory assignments will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Support VM Management in planning, organizing, and measuring efficiencies within Transmission & Distribution (T&D) programs, including Distribution Planned/Reactive Maintenance, Transmission Planned/Reactive Maintenance, Customer Experience (Issue Resolution, Customer Options such as ATMA and Design), Pre-Notification Program, and VM Contractor Performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulatory VM requirements.
  • Provide continual quality assurance for special projects and maintain documentation for management, leadership, and regulatory review.
  • Contribute to contract management, including:
    • VM Bid process for T&D.
    • Assessing contract workforce needs for the Notification Program.
    • Analyzing contract workforce needs for the planned Rights-of-Way (ROW) maintenance program.
    • Measuring contractor performance via Performance Management controls.
    • Participating in monthly Contractor meetings.
  • Support the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure productive and safe vegetation management services.
  • Promote best practices by evaluating methods, techniques, and software used for project tracking and recommend improvements.
  • Advise and participate in resolving consumer vegetation management issues.
  • Assist in overseeing an environmentally safe herbicide program for economical ROW control.
  • Develop and implement procedures for timely response to system emergencies, restoration efforts, and major storm cleanup for Distribution and Transmission operations.
  • Support the development of new processes to enhance visibility and accuracy of VM reporting.
  • Develop professional relationships with other utility companies, industry organizations, and contractors to stay current on VM practices and maximize efficiencies.
  • Represent the Company professionally on forestry-related issues.
  • Develop and present VM-related programs, annual training, and safety initiatives.
  • During severe weather events, request additional tree contractor and arborist resources to support restoration efforts as determined by VM Management.
  • Perform all essential aspects and functions of the job.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or a related discipline (encouraged).
  • Certified or capable of obtaining International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist certification.
  • Licensed or capable of obtaining Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Experience Levels

  • Forester Associate: 1+ years of utility vegetation management experience.
  • Forester: 2-3 years of utility vegetation management experience.
  • Forester Sr: 3+ years of utility vegetation management experience.
  • Forester Specialist: 5+ years of utility vegetation management experience and 3+ years managing Oncor VM programs (encouraged).

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (emphasis on Access and Excel), internet tools, email, and electronic invoicing tools.
  • GIS/GPS experience (a plus).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership through documented, exceptional work performance.
