Duties And Responsibilities
- Translates written documents from English to Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian and from Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian to English.
- Translates orally from English to Spanish or English to Ukrainian-Russian and from Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian to English during conferences, telephone calls, testing, information gathering from other school districts, emergency situations, etc.
- Affords assistance to Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian speaking students and their families with the school enrollment process.
- Serves as a liaison between the school district and Latino or Ukrainian-Russian groups and organizations in the community.
- Affords support to school staff in understanding and appreciating the Latino or Ukrainian-Russian culture.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school and demonstrated ability to speak, understand, read and write fluently in both English, Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Essential Job Functions
- Requires the ability to speak in Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian and English to convey or exchange information.
- Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, etc. in English, Spanish, or Ukrainian-Russian.
- Requires the ability to write using standard conventions in English, Spanish, or Ukrainian-Russian languages.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the English, Spanish, or Ukrainian-Russian languages.
- Skill in translating spoken words from English to Spanish or English to Ukrainian-Russian and from Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian to English at a normal speaking rate.
- Ability to translate verbal messages to written documents and written documents to verbal messages in Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian and English.
- Ability to adapt language based on the level of the student and parent.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
