Transition Assistant Teacher

As a Transition Assistant Teacher, you will play a key role in helping young adults with intellectual, developmental, and autism spectrum disabilities develop the skills necessary for employment, independent living, and meaningful community participation. Working closely with the Director of Transition Services, this individual provides direct instruction, coordinates vocational training experiences, supervises community-based employment opportunities, and supports participants in achieving their individualized goals. This position combines the responsibilities of an educator, employment specialist, mentor, and job coach within Aspire's innovative, community-based model.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction to young adults with intellectual, developmental, and autism spectrum disabilities.
• Coordinate vocational training experiences and supervise community-based employment opportunities.
• Support participants in achieving their individualized goals through person-centered planning and positive behavior supports.
• Collaborate with schools, employers, and community agencies to enhance transition services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Human Services, Education, or a related field (required). Associate degree with relevant experience will be considered.
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or autism.
• Experience in vocational training, supported employment, transition services, or job coaching (preferred).
• Knowledge of person-centered planning and positive behavior supports.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must have satisfactory background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in transition programs for young adults.
• Knowledge of Connecticut DDS services and employment supports.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

$45,000–55,000 per year

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
