About the role

Transit Operators play a critical role in safely transporting passengers throughout the region while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining the highest safety standards. Operators are responsible for transporting passengers according to scheduled routes and times while operating assigned vehicles in a safe, reliable, and professional manner.

Selected candidates will participate in a paid 6-8 week training program starting on July 13th, 2026, designed to prepare operators for successful service in the field. Training includes:

  • CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement preparation
  • Defensive driving and safety procedures
  • Route and fare training
  • Passenger assistance and customer service
  • ADA and federal transit requirements
  • Behind-the-wheel and hands-on operational training

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate assigned transit vehicles in compliance with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies/procedures.
  • Complete required documentation including manifests, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, accident reports, and other operational forms.
  • Follow dispatch instructions and efficiently manage passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting passengers courteously, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Answer questions regarding routes, fares, service areas, and eligibility requirements.
  • Assist passengers with mobility or accessibility needs when necessary.
  • Attend and successfully complete all required training programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of assigned routes and federal transit requirements.
  • Fuel, clean, and maintain vehicles as required.
  • Report to work during adverse weather conditions and work split shifts as operational needs require.

Requirements

  • Be able to obtain a CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card.
  • Possess a good driving record for the past six (6) years.
  • Successfully pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely operate vehicles in all weather conditions.
  • Have strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

Candidates who currently possess a CDL with Passenger Endorsement are strongly encouraged to apply and may receive hiring priority. Previous transit, bus, or motor coach driving experience is preferred but not required.

Pay

Starting pay begins at $20.64 per hour. Higher compensation opportunities may be considered based solely on verified prior transit experience.
