Transit Fleet Mechanic

High Valley Transit is seeking a Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you'll help keep our diverse fleet — vans, cutaway buses, and full-size transit buses, both diesel and electric — safe, reliable, and road-ready. Every bus that leaves the garage in good working order is a promise kept to the riders who depend on us — commuters getting to work, students getting to school, and neighbors getting where they need to go. Your work will make a difference in keeping our community connected.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vans, cutaways, and full-size transit buses
• Service and repair diesel and electric drivetrains, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
• Perform routine inspections in compliance with DOT and other applicable safety regulations
• Maintain accurate service records and work orders in the fleet maintenance system
• Complete road calls and emergency repairs as needed
• Order parts and maintain inventory of commonly used components
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer specifications

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational/technical training in automotive or diesel technology preferred
• Valid driver's license required; CDL (Class B) preferred or willingness to obtain
• Diesel engine experience is a plus but not required — training available for the right candidate
• Familiarity with electric vehicle systems a plus
• Working knowledge of brake systems, HVAC, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance procedures
• Ability to use diagnostic scan tools and standard mechanic's hand/power tools
• ASE certifications a plus (or willingness to pursue)
• Willingness to take direction and coaching
• Team-oriented mindset — willing to share knowledge with other mechanics in the shop
