Transit Bus Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT safety standards and company maintenance requirements
  • Oversee daily vehicle inspections, record-keeping, and maintenance documentation
  • Troubleshoot electrical, air, and engine systems to minimize downtime
  • Maintain accurate parts inventory and order supplies when necessary
  • Ensure environmental and safety compliance within the maintenance area
  • Support emergency response and breakdown calls as needed

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL (Class B or higher) with passenger endorsement – preferred (required for road testing vehicles)
  • 2+ years of mechanical experience on diesel, transit, or motorcoach vehicles
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations
  • Able to manage multiple priorities
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing (DOT compliant)
  • Basic computer literacy (maintenance tracking software, spreadsheets, email)
