About the role
This full-time position assists the Landfill Crew Leader with operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment at the County’s post-closure landfill, inert landfill, transfer station, and related facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily maintenance operations of post-closure landfills as required by Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).
- Operate light equipment including skid steers, commercial mowers, tractors, weed eaters, bush hogs, and other equipment as needed.
- Operate heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, and excavators.
- Coordinate staging of yard waste and mulch from County departments and the public.
- Coordinate with the transfer station contractor to dispose of animal waste in a timely manner.
- Use hand tools such as shovels and bush axes.
- Apply herbicides and pesticides.
- Assist in maintenance and installation of stormwater control structures.
- Maintain assigned equipment and tools.
- Assist in construction, repair, and maintenance of solid waste monitoring areas to EPD standards.
- Assist in litter cleanup in County right-of-way at the facility.
- Monitor transfer station activities and report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, typically gained through an apprenticeship, internship, or 1–2 years in a similar role.
- Ability to communicate with the general public when providing customer service.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Pay
Starting salary: $41,367.86
