About the role

The Department of State seeks a Protective Security Specialist to support their Worldwide Protective Services III (WPS III) task orders in austere environments. The ideal candidate will train U.S. contractors on weapons systems refresher training and conduct instruction in both classroom and range settings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct training for WPS III personnel.
  • Cookout and conduct refresher training and firearms re-qualifications for WPS III personnel.
  • Support protection teams as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as an instructor in a security field.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience as a FTE firearms instructor.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in protective security assignments, with at least 2 years in supervisory or in-charge capacities.
  • Must have at least 6 months of experience in protective security under WPS III or its predecessors.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Passport with at least 6 months remaining before expiration.
  • Must be proficient in English speaking, writing, and communication skills.
  • Must pass the pre-employment Physical Readiness Test (PRT).

Training (Paid Training)

  • Attend and successfully complete DOS Protective Security Specialist Basic, Quick Reaction Force, and Basic Field Firearms Officer’s training courses.
  • Pass a weapon and PRT requalification course on TO if applicable.
  • Qualify with the Glock-19, M4 or MK18 as specified by the designated TO, M240, and M249.
  • Complete the WPS III PRT.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

  • Must be approved for a Department of State Medical Clearance.
  • Must be able to perform tasks such as walking, squatting, crawling, running, quickly entering/exiting vehicles, maneuvering around obstacles, carrying heavy equipment and personnel, and operating mission-essential issued equipment requiring dexterity.
  • Must be able to operate and/or travel in vehicles on improved and unimproved roadways, as well as off-road.
  • Must be physically able to carry and operate firearms.
  • Must maintain physical fitness readiness including medium and/or long-distance running, bench presses, agility runs, push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
  • Must possess no medical or physical impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries considered dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Must be able to travel long distances in airplanes, helicopters, and road vehicles.
