About the role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Sports Turf Specialist to join our team at the Orlando Health Training Ground at Osceola Heritage Park. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks including mowing, fertilization, edging, irrigation, troubleshooting, and repair.
Responsibilities
- Aid in maintaining three natural grass fields and one turf field at the Orlando Health Training Ground at Osceola Heritage Park, including mowing, fertilization, edging, irrigation, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Proactively identify turf grass diseases, weeds, and pests, and collaborate with the Head Groundskeeper to take corrective action.
- Collaborate with the Director of Turf & Grounds to ensure field conditions meet MLS/MLS Next Pro standards.
- Assist with MLS games, NWSL games, and third-party events at Inter.co Stadium based on business needs.
- Absorb Orlando City B game coverage at Osceola County Stadium based on business needs.
- Create and maintain good working relationships with all MLS coaches and soccer operations staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Must have 1-3 years of grounds maintenance-related work experience, with soccer-specific experience preferred.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Turf Grass Science, Horticulture, or related field is preferred.
- Candidate should possess or have the ability to obtain the Florida Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
- Ability to operate turf-related equipment (i.e., tractors, mowers, aerifiers, field paint machines).
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to change.
- Ability to resolve concerns expeditiously and independently.
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time and in various weather conditions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- The ability to attain and maintain Safesport certification.
- The ability to pass a background screening.
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Ability to walk and stand for short periods of time.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
