About the Role
The Training & Quality Specialist (TQS) is responsible for training hourly workers and ensuring quality standards across all departments of the distribution center. This role delivers comprehensive and engaging training programs that prepare individuals for their roles at DHL, considering diverse learning styles and fostering motivation. The TQS conducts thorough audits of employee work, supports root cause analysis, and implements improvement measures to enhance quality performance in line with DHL's vision to be the Quality Leader. This position serves as a role model for DHL’s Strategic Framework, embedding the mission, vision, values, and attributes into the employee experience.
Responsibilities
Training
- Conduct training and orientations for hourly and agency workers using the “Training the DHL Way” methodology in all departments: EN, IB, OB, and Dock/Receiving.
- Provide on-the-job continuous training and cross-training, including safety and quality methods.
- Offer continuous coaching, motivational, and developmental feedback to reinforce training concepts and support skill development.
- Administer the 1st 30-Day SOP and continue developing employees as part of their first-year journey at DHL.
- Train hourly workers on newly introduced processes to ensure smooth transitions and comprehensive understanding.
- Deliver recurrent training for all certifications and mandated safety programs, including TSA/DG trainings in Veroot.
- Report daily training activities in designated tools and share sites.
- Partner with the Training and Quality Manager or Supervisors to develop job instructions and training aids.
Quality
- Conduct comprehensive audits to ensure exceptional quality, including:
- Reviewing containers for accurate sorting.
- Validating gaylords for correct routing, placards, and container IDs.
- Inspecting package labels for print quality and tracing discrepancies back to origin DC, station, or customer.
- Demonstrate “Best Practices” for employees, assist with direction, coach package handlers when exceptions are discovered, and report issues to supervisors.
- Work with employees to move product through each step of the process flow.
- Conduct pre-shift communication meetings regarding quality to provide tips and increase awareness.
- Create and maintain daily recap reports of identified errors and review with supervisors.
- Support the investigation and resolution of local quality-related issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrections.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree, qualification, or evidence of continuous professional development in your area of expertise is a plus.
- Internal candidates: 6 months of experience in DHL operations.
- External candidates: 1 year of experience in training or quality (logistics or operational environment preferred).
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; a second language is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain tasks clearly.
- Understanding of standardized math processes.
- Familiarity with production standards to ensure employees meet and exceed expectations.
- Basic Excel skills.
- Certification in TWI (provided during onboarding).
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to use technology: Internet, email, tablet apps.
- Strong time management, deadline adherence, and organizational skills.
- Ability to observe and read gauges, instruments, and dials to determine operating processes.
- Work with minimal supervision, under pressure, and on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Interact with employees in a respectful and professional manner.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, push, or pull mail and parcels weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently observe and assess productivity and output of personnel.
- Frequently communicate with departmental personnel to assign, lead, and coordinate work activities.
- Work in a warehouse environment with exposure to:
- Cold, hot, and changing temperatures.
- Medium-level noise (not damaging or requiring protective equipment).
- Dust, dirt, and changes in lighting.
