About the role
Develop all skills required to perform as a member of the labor crew under the direct supervision of the Laborer Foreman. Works with the labor crew and Laborer Foreman in the following areas:
- Reading of roadway plans and drawings
- Use and care of hand and power tools
- Installation of Erosion and Sediment Control measures
- Maintenance and Protection of Traffic tasks
- Receiving and unloading of concrete pipe
- Asphalt patching and compacting procedures
- Labor tasks for road grading
Performs other related duties as directed by the Foreman.
Skills to be learned
- Plan reading and standard drawings
- Use of hand and power tools
- Maintenance and protection of traffic procedures
- Care and operation of equipment
- Erosion and sediment control measures
- Material delivery procedures
- Asphalt patching and compacting techniques
- Labor tasks for road grading
Requirements
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Demonstrated reasonable intelligence to handle technical job elements
- Aptitude and interest in the craft
- Valid driver’s license (e.g., equipment operator, truck driver, or highway license)
- No prior completion of a training program leading to journeyperson status or gainful employment as a journeyman in this classification
- No more than three prior withdrawals from the trainee program (case-by-case exceptions possible)
- Ability to pass a pre-job physical if required
Program Details
