About the role
The Minnesota Department of Corrections seeks to fill multiple openings for Trainee Corrections Officers at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. This position is open to all qualified job seekers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety, security, and control of the correctional facility.
- Serve as a supervisor, encouraging positive behavior and preparing incarcerated individuals for successful release.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Operate and maintain equipment safely and efficiently.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and unusual situations using the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Comply with all agency and state policies and statutes.
- Support the DOC's vision, mission, values, goals, and initiatives.
Requirements
- At least 18 years old for adult facilities, and at least 21 years old for juvenile facilities.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Pass a criminal history check, including probation completion.
- Ability to possess a firearm and possibly obtain a permit.
- A valid driver's license.
- One or more years of full-time work experience in any field, or two or more years of part-time work experience, or an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field, or honorable discharge from military service, or completion of an internship in a Minnesota Correctional Facility.

Pay
$29.61 per hour during the initial 6-week training academy, transitioning to $61,826 annually after successful completion of the academy.
Schedule
Day shift for the initial 6-week training academy, followed by a shift assignment based on the Minnesota Correctional Facility where you work.
