About the role
Mesilla Valley Transportation is hiring Trailer Technicians in El Paso, Texas. The Trailer Technician III repairs and maintains trailers to ensure operational efficiency and compliance, achieving recognition for key support within the team and promptly resolving issues as they arise under management direction.
Schedule
Tuesday–Saturday, 3:30 pm–12:00 am
Responsibilities
- Inspects and repairs trailers in accordance with company/OEM standards
- Performs DOT and general inspections
- Ensures equipment is functioning properly and within Department of Transportation compliance
- Inspects and cleans parts; submits orders if a part must be replaced
- Confirms proper function of equipment after repair is completed
- Troubleshoots electrical/mechanical malfunctions on all components of the trailer
- Repairs trailer damages to panels, doors, hinges, floor, and axles
- Repairs/replaces tires according to company guidelines for PSI, wear, and tread depth
- Performs general fleet maintenance on trailers to include lights, air brakes, wheel ends, suspension, and miscellaneous other repairs
- Ability to make any kind of trailer repair—electrical, mechanical, or damage
- Ability to weld and fabricate to make necessary repairs
- Replaces suspension assemblies and axle bushings
- Utilizes tools to reduce downtime and increase effectiveness
- Documents work completed to include 3Cs and notes in the company maintenance software
- Assists Trailer Supervisor with other functions as needed
- Maintains a clean work area
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two years or more years' experience in mechanic experience and/or training
- Trailer Mechanic must be DOT certified
- Licensed Mechanic Journeyman preferred

- Indoor and outdoor environment
- Employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions including direct sunlight and heat
- Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold and extreme heat
- Employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
