Traffic Technician (NY, Long Island)

Entry-level, full-time position with a starting salary of $20 - $23 per hour. $1,000 signing bonus after successfully completing 6 months of employment.

About the role

Programs and places traffic counting machines and tubes onto roadways as instructed. Collects traffic counting machines at conclusion of counts. Downloads data from traffic counters to computer and prepares printouts. Conducts turning movement counts when requested. Helps maintain traffic counting equipment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and remove traffic counting machines and tubes on roadways
• Collect traffic counting machines after counts are completed
• Download data from traffic counters and prepare printouts
• Conduct turning movement counts as requested
• Maintain traffic counting equipment
• Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs while loading vehicle and setting up/removing work zones (includes bending, kneeling, lifting 10-50 lbs)
• Operate hand and power tools (hammer, crowbar, etc.)
• Work outdoors with regular exposure to outside elements
• Operate company vehicle safely, frequently entering and exiting travel lanes
• Work responsibly and safely in/near roadways (streets, highways, freeways)
• Read maps, navigate to sites, and collect GPS coordinates accurately
• Use radar, video recording equipment, and wireless technologies for traffic counting
• Troubleshoot and configure electronics and computer equipment
• Work effectively alone and occasionally as part of a team on special projects

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Driver’s License with excellent driving record
• Must pass a background check and meet company policies and federal/state laws
• Must obtain and maintain a negative drug test prior to and throughout employment
• Must pass or already hold Basic Work Zone Safety Training Course
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime
• Daily/weekly travel and overnight stays required (30% or more during the year, home most weekends)
• Good verbal/written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Earth
• Safety-conscious mindset

Skills

• Strong electronics and computer skills for configuration and troubleshooting
• Familiarity with radar, video recording equipment, and wireless technologies (a plus)

Pay

$20 - $23 per hour. $1,000 signing bonus after 6 months of employment.

Schedule

• Full-time position with approximately 90% of work Monday - Friday and 10% on weekends
• Flexible hours, including nights and overtime
• Daily/weekly travel with overnight stays (30% or more during the year, home most weekends)
