Location & Schedule

Standard working hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating nights and weekend shifts. Home base is 5440 Roslyn St., Denver, CO 80216.

The Transportation Operations Team is responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation, and emergency repair of traffic control devices, maintaining a fiber optic communication network, operating the Transportation Management Center, and handling signals, electronics repair, utility locates, sign installation/manufacturing, and pavement markings. This role works with crew members in a team setting where punctuality and commitment are essential.

As the Traffic Signal Technician I, you will:

• Complete general maintenance of traffic signals
• Learn on the job with senior technicians about monitoring and programming traffic signal timing controllers and make necessary adjustments under direction
• Use multi-meters to read voltage/ohms in the field and shop
• Work in all weather conditions assisting with basic wiring, splicing, phasing out intersections, work at heights up to 35 feet, concrete work, shoveling, building caissons, and conduit work
• Gain experience installing, removing, and repairing signal control and auxiliary equipment such as traffic signal controllers and cabinets, and work with vehicle detection installs
• Learn to evaluate and assist with construction by interpreting blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Complete vehicle detection involving walking behind concrete/pavement saw and air compressor
• Operate vehicles and perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections including checking fluid levels, observing leaks, monitoring hoses and belts, checking tire pressure, ensuring brake lights and lights work, and other related inspections
• Follow safety practices associated with tools and equipment, monitor work environment for hazards, ensure safety for self and others, and maintain equipment and tools for the next crew
• Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in work areas in accordance with traffic regulation requirements
• Use Cartograph and MS Office Suite to log, record, and create daily work reports
• Assist with investigation of complaints and reports of defective traffic signals and associated equipment
• Drive regular pick-up and bucket trucks, operate skid steers, and mini excavators (CDL A holders may operate to haul trailers transporting equipment)

What You'll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all of the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

• Two years of experience in the field/shop with construction of traffic signals, installation, maintenance, or repair
• Basic wiring, splicing, and electrical skills
• Class A CDL
• Basic computer skills using MS Office and familiarity with asset management systems
• Current IMSA Traffic Signal Level I Certification (preferred, not required)
• Excellent customer and communication skills

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate
• One (1) year of experience in traffic signal installation, construction, maintenance, or repair
• Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
• Valid Driver's License at time of application
• Possession of a Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by end of probation (licenses and certifications must be kept current)
