About the role
RK&K is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer with 6+ years of expertise in work zone traffic control and policy development. This role supports high-impact projects through open-end contracts with state and local agencies, focusing on advancing work zone safety and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Perform traffic engineering research to identify and analyze work zone traffic control methodologies, principals, products, and applications
- Create work zone policies, guidelines, and engineering standards to improve work zone design, implementation, and operations to enhance safety and efficiency
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of existing work zone standards and traffic control plans to identify areas for improvement
- Review and develop maintenance of traffic plans for major projects that includes consideration for workers, vehicles, and vulnerable road users
- Plan, design, and implement ITS work zone applications to provide better traveler information to motorists concerning work zones
- Absorb and assist with Speed Safety Camera programs for work zones including program management, implementation, assessment of program effectiveness, quality assurance and vendor coordination
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related
- Registered P.E. license
- Six (6) + years of experience in traffic engineering, particularly work zones
Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills and public speaking
- Problem-solving and analytical abilities, with the ability to use data and research to inform decision making
- Strong knowledge of work zone traffic control strategies, safety strategies, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other relevant standards and regulations
Skills
- Experience with project management and coordination
- Familiarity with state and local traffic engineering standards
