TRAFFIC ENGINEER

About the Role

This position is responsible for performing traffic engineering duties and reports to the Traffic Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

• Performs collision and traffic calming analyses, signal warrants, sign requests, sight distance evaluations, and other traffic-related analyses.
• Designs and provides project management for traffic signal, street lighting, and street sign projects and operations.
• Conducts reviews of private development plans and traffic impact studies.
• Provides oversight of consultants and contractors performing work for Capital Projects.
• Exercises functional supervision over assigned personnel.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent and three (3) to five (5) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training in the State of Alabama.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated (required at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment).

Physical Demands

The work is light work, which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color.

Work Environment

The work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments, occasionally in cold, hot, or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
