About the role

The Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) division is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets. The Traffic Control & Engineering (TCE) division administers, engineers, and operates the installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices such as traffic signs, stanchions, supports, bus stops, informational and regulatory signs, and pavement markings.
  • Operate, maintain, and make minor adjustments to motor vehicles, pavement marking machines, air compressors, pavement breakers, snowplows, and other field and shop equipment.
  • Climb and work from ladders, tower trucks, and bucket trucks.
  • Perform manual labor in the loading and unloading of trucks and the placement of traffic devices.
  • Ensure compliance with all agency safety rules and regulations.
  • Work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience using hand and/or power tools to assemble, repair, maintain, and/or install mechanical and/or electrical devices.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above.
  • Graduation from an approved four-year trade, technical, or vocational high school with a mechanical or electrical major.
  • Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of training in the mechanical or electrical field acquired in an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with no restrictions valid in the State of New York or a Class B Learner’s Permit.

Preferred Skills

  • Possession of a CDL Class B license with no restrictions.
  • Ability to work in all types of inclement weather.

Benefits

This position offers competitive compensation starting at $59,636.00 and potentially up to $77,911.00 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
