Traffic-Control Supervisor - Night

About the role
As a Traffic Control Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe and effective setup, maintenance, and takedown of work zones in accordance with the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual (VWAPM) and client specifications. You will lead and oversee traffic control crews in the field, communicate with contractors, clients, and company leadership, document job site activity, coach and train crew members, and foster a positive, safety-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee traffic control crews in setting up, monitoring, and removing work zones
- Ensure all operations meet VWAPM and project-specific standards
- Drive and operate non-CDL flatbed or cone trucks (18’–24’) as needed
- Communicate with contractors, clients, and company leadership regarding daily site operations
- Document job site activity, crew attendance, and safety concerns
- Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle, equipment, and materials
- Respond to emergencies and adjust traffic control setups in real time
- Coach and train crew members on best practices and job expectations
- Foster a positive, safety-focused environment on every project
- Represent Spivey Services with professionalism and respect in the field
Requirements
- Must have Valid Virginia Driver’s License
- Must have at least two (2) years of field experience in traffic control or construction
- Must have strong understanding of basic traffic control principles and safety procedures
- Must have experience driving larger trucks (18’–24’)—(CDL not required)
- Must demonstrate the ability to lead small teams in the field with professionalism and urgency
- Must be able to work day or night shifts as assigned
- Must be able to pass background check and drug screen
- Must be able to lift fifty (50)+ lbs and perform strenuous outdoor tasks
- Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and load equipment throughout shift
- Must be able to travel to and from multiple job sites within the region
- Must be available for nights, weekends, and emergency response deployments
Qualifications
- American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Certification (Flagger or Traffic Control Supervisor)
- Occupational Safety Health Association (OSHA) 10 or 30
- Previous leadership or crew chief experience
- Strong communication and reporting skills
