Responsibilities
- Directs traffic, including rolling stock, on or about the facility tipping floor during all receiving time hours.
- Manages the waste acceptance process, ensuring it meets specified quality and quantity requirements.
- Ensures the tipping hall is maintained in a safe and compliant manner, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Manages the process of receiving and weighing incoming waste, ensuring it meets the facility's specifications.
- Provides instructions to waste delivery drivers including directing them to the tipping bays if required.
- Captures and documents the results of waste inspections, maintaining accurate records.
- Maintains a safe and compliant tipping hall environment, following health and safety procedures and regulations.
- Works closely with the Operations and Maintenance Managers and the H&S Director to meet the facility's safety and operational goals.
- Reports of accidents and injuries occurring in the tipping hall area.
- Performs inspections of all incoming waste delivered to the facility, and filling out County supplied forms, as may be changed from time-to-time by the County, documenting the results of such inspections.
- Issues instructions to truck drivers in relation to the detection of Prohibited Waste.
- Refuses or rejects non-processible waste, hazardous waste and other prohibited waste.
- Notifies the County's Authorized Representative or designee of deliveries of Prohibited Waste.
- Assigns day-to-day tasks to equipment operators, monitors work and reports unusual circumstances to facility manager.
- Works with various stakeholders, including waste providers, operators, and inspectors.
- Manages the diversion of traffic in the case of accidents, major works or vehicle breakdowns and co-ordinate any necessary haulage.
- Identifies and implements improvements to the tipping hall process to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Maintains and enforces Company policies and procedures, environmental compliance, safety and health.
- Completes the Corporate and Facility Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
- Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.
- Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action.
- Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
- One year related experience or training.
- Mechanical skills sufficient to perform equipment maintenance, minor repairs and general preventative maintenance.
- Mechanical skills to recognize inconsistencies and hazards in the workplace.
- Basic computer operations skills.
