Job Summary
About the role
This position involves setting up and taking down lane closures and flagging traffic on state highways and other roadways. Tasks include redirecting traffic for workers or survey crews, assembling, delivering, and picking up safety products, and working independently or as part of a traffic control crew.
Responsibilities
- Flagging traffic
- Identify and pull accurate signs for jobs
- Assemble signage
- Complete work orders on standard set ups and take downs
- Understand and know four basic set ups: lane shift, lane closure, road closure, and flagger
- Drive pick-up trucks and include backing, pulling, and positioning of trailered equipment
- Communicate with co-workers, clients, and staff professionally, efficiently, and effectively
- Understand and read basic traffic control plans and maps
- Execute work orders by loading trucks with appropriate requirements or checking loaded trucks for requirements
- Close work order with indication of return and pick up times
Requirements
- Must be 21+
- Flagging certificate, a plus but will train
- Highly organized, effective communicator
- Work calmly and accurately under pressure
- Strong eye for details
- Work effectively independently or as part of a team
- Handle customer concerns and requests for information expeditiously and professionally
- Proficient with maps and directions
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds for short periods of time
- Ability to work long periods of time in all seasons regardless of weather conditions
Pay
$16.00–$45.00/hour, depending on project assignment and applicable prevailing wage requirements.
Schedule
Flexible hours, early starts and late finishes based on day to day operations. All season position.
