Job Summary

Developing traffic designs, construction plans and specifications, conducting field investigations or studies, preparing architecture-engineer (A-E) or design-build statements of work, performing design quality control, inspecting projects under construction, coordinating among customers, architects, other design disciplines, O&M and other stakeholders, managing and leading A-E contractors, responding to operating facilities emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum required degree: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • If program is not ABET accredited, must include specified coursework in differential and integral calculus and 5 of the following 18 areas: statics or dynamics, strength of materials/stress-strain relationships, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetic fields, nature and properties of materials/relating particle and aggregate structure to properties, solid state electronics, microprocessor applications, computer systems, signal processing, digital design, systems and control theory, circuits or generalized circuits, communication systems, power systems, computer networks, software development, optics, heat transfer, or soil mechanics.
  • Relevant experience must be working in a civil engineering capacity (e.g., storm water management, hydraulics, site development, transportation, geotechnical surveying, and structures).
  • Experience using Civil Engineering Design software and computer aided design and drafting and reading design drawings.
  • Experience may also include project management.

Full Performance

  • Entry requires a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience, or a Doctoral degree and no experience.

Knowledge and Experience Desired

  • Technical software packages (e.g. AutoCAD, SpecsIntact, AutoTurn, PTV VISUM/VISSIM)
  • Site development/transportation planning systems
  • Vehicle and pedestrian circulation, including access control points
  • Traffic signals and signage
  • Parking
  • Pavement design
  • Technical standards (e.g. UFC, AASHTO, MDSHA, MUTCD)
