Tradesworker I - Road and Bridge

Essential Job Duties

• Repairs sidewalks as needed by removing, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
• Repairs uneven sidewalks by grinding the existing concrete.
• Performs duties as needed to place hot mix asphalt in large patches or potholes within roadways.
• Preforms guardrail maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Removes and replaces drainage pipe and structures as needed.
• Repairs or replaces irrigation systems as needed.
• Constructs concrete or rip-rap headwalls as needed using various types of construction techniques.
• Constructs and repairs various types of stormwater inlets as needed.

Typical Requirements

• Education: High school graduate or GED and five years of working experience related skilled labor in the construction industry.
• Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License.
• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of tools and equipment used in carpentry, asphalt, masonry, irrigation and drainage pipe work as they relate to roadway construction activities; knowledge in the safe operation of various types of hand tools and power tools; knowledge of standard Florida Maintenance of Traffic processes and procedures; ability to interpret drawings and plans; ability to trouble-shoot irrigation systems and make repairs; ability to perform heavy manual labor; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
