Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) - Green Lakes State Park

Description

Under the supervision of the Park Manager 1, grade 18, the Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter), SG-12, will be assigned to the Regional Capital Facilities Construction Crew working out of Green Lakes State Park, and will perform journey-level plumbing and steam fitting tasks within the regional water, wastewater, and plumbing department.

Duties

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Repair, maintain, and install various plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, hot water appliances, splash pad & fountain operations, etc.
  • Repair, maintain, and install water distribution lines, sewer infrastructure components, and natural gas or propane supply lines.
  • Plan and lay out projects, including preparing materials lists and placing orders in compliance with NYS purchasing guidelines.
  • Execute projects and tasks that require excavation and/or confined space entry.
  • Assist in the location of underground utility infrastructure.
  • Assist in the operation and testing of potable water supplies and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Maintain daily activity reports, along with other required written records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four years of full-time experience* in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson; which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.
  • Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.
  • If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Operational Needs

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
  • Must be available to work a variable schedule, including different days, hours, or overtime as needed.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the safe operation of hand and stationary shop tools.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
