Trades / Maintenance Worker 1
The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) is seeking a Trades Maintenance Worker 1 (TMW1) to support facility maintenance and operations.
About the role
This position assists with a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and basic mechanical systems, under the guidance of higher-level staff. The TMW1 provides general support for facilities and grounds upkeep, including minor repairs, surface preparation, material movement, landscaping, and debris removal. They may also assist with furniture and fixture repairs, basic shop support, and classroom/lab setup.
Responsibilities
- Assists with a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades.
- Supports facilities and grounds upkeep, including minor repairs, surface preparation, material movement, landscaping, and debris removal.
- Affords assistance with furniture and fixture repairs, basic shop support, and classroom/lab setup.
- Works both independently and as part of a team, with direction provided by the Facilities Manager or higher-level maintenance staff.
- Maintains effective working relationships that support successful problem-solving and foster a respectful workplace.
- Identifies needs and takes appropriate action to demonstrate initiative.
- Maintains high standards of ethics, integrity, and professional interaction.
- Provides exceptional customer service through responsive and solution-oriented support.
- Contributes to advancing and supporting the mission of the department and University.
Requirements
- One (1) year of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and/or welding.
- Experience with basic preventive maintenance in commercial buildings.
- Experience working in educational facilities.

Special Requirements
- This position may drive a university vehicle and typically requires a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain UO Driver’s Certification.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $18.06 - $23.88 per hour FTE: 1.0
Schedule
Regular, ongoing appointment.
