Trades Maintenance Specialist II - Corrections Shop - Swing Shift Evenings
About the role
The Trades Maintenance Specialist II position is a working Trades Maintenance position performing all duties required of a Trades Maintenance Specialist I. In addition to these duties, it is expected to lead by example, ensure workflow continuity by stepping-in when needed to assist and work alongside maintenance personnel, train new employees, perform administrative duties such as Workday and Maximo, and be able to cover for the supervisor when the supervisor is absent.
Responsibilities
- Performs operational and preventive maintenance on complex facilities, equipment, and systems, including ecological or natural resource areas;
- Executes critical repairs to systems and equipment to maintain functionality, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, permits, and regulations;
- Acts as a technical expert in the maintenance and modification of complex equipment and systems, including natural resource management;
- Interprets and applies relevant codes, standards, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to facilitate work processes;
- Prepares working sketches, drawings, and resource estimates for assigned projects and modifications;
- Operates specialized equipment to support various activities within the organization;
- Recommends improvements to equipment, facilities, and systems to enhance operability, reliability, and compliance with standards;
- Acts as a work center shift supervisor in the absence of the Trades Maintenance Supervisor (TM Supervisor);
- Inspects and approves work performed by maintenance staff, ensuring quality and adherence to standards;
- Covers for the supervisor when the supervisor is absent;
- Coordinates equipment modifications and maintenance with facility managers and operations staff to minimize service disruptions;
- Maintains security and confidentiality of sensitive equipment, materials, and end-products, particularly in law enforcement or correctional settings;
- Participates in the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts for equipment, supplies, and services;
- Maintains comprehensive records of work performed, equipment modifications, and operational logs, and prepares periodic or special reports for management.
Requirements
This position reports to the Corrections Maintenance Shop at Pima County Main Jail (1270 W. Silverlake Rd). The schedule is five evening shifts per week, from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (second shift). Assigned workdays rotate on a quarterly basis.
Qualifications
- Four years of journey-level experience in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC or electrical.
- Or Two years of experience with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Specialist I or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
Skills
Experience with written communication, especially with written shift summaries and documentation of issues.
