Trades Generalist – Hudson Valley

Human Resources$50k/yrFull-time

About the role

Trades Generalists perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment, and electrical trades. They are supervised by higher-level trades positions, such as Trades Supervisor (Carpenter), Maintenance Supervisor 1, 2 or 3, or a program administrator with varied responsibilities related to facilities and equipment maintenance and repair.

Work priorities are generally prescribed, materials are furnished, and the nature and extent of the work is provided through detailed plans, diagrams, and specifications. However, a Trades Generalist may also work from rough sketches or oral instructions. While work is inspected periodically, incumbents are expected to work with considerable independence, typical of a skilled tradesperson.

A Trades Generalist may supervise subordinate maintenance staff by making assignments, giving instructions, and observing and inspecting work to ensure quality and compliance.

Qualifications

Non-competitive: Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, providing training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained through technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Pay

Starting salary reflects the Mid-Hudson adjustment. Posted hiring salary includes the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) plus the Mid-Hudson adjustment ($2,000). The Mid-Hudson adjustment is also added to the job rate ($61,548).
