Team Overview

The Municipal Trading Department within Edward Jones is responsible for providing our Financial Advisors with a broad supply of highly diversified and fairly priced municipal bonds to meet the unique needs of our clients. Our goal is to identify and analyze opportunities in the marketplace while achieving best execution and evolving our trading capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure inventories align with firm research and portfolio guidance, leveraging new issues, bid wanteds, secondary purchases, and external offerings to identify capital commitment opportunities and manage corresponding positions.
  • Execute trades across municipal markets while optimizing execution across multiple channels (dealer, electronic, internal flows).
  • Apply capital markets analytics, market data, and relative value analysis to inform trading decisions, identify opportunities, and improve execution outcomes.
  • Enhance systematic and electronic trading strategies and execution models to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability of trading outcomes.
  • Leverage internal and external data sources to develop and expand desk analytics.
  • Utilize trading systems and analytical tools to support data-driven insights and workflow improvements, and identify opportunities to enhance trading processes.
  • Partner with internal teams to improve tools, advance analytics capabilities, and drive continuous process improvement across the desk.
  • Manage risk through disciplined evaluation of inventory exposure, liquidity conditions, and market dynamics.
  • Deliver client service excellence for all branch-related inquiries, providing market insights and supporting advisors with timely and accurate execution.
  • Provide training and guidance to other traders, contributing to the development of team capabilities in areas such as pricing, analytics, execution strategy, and inventory management.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, including dealer networks, to enhance market access and execution outcomes.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. degree in business, economics, finance, or a quantitative-related field.
  • 3+ years of financial services experience; capital markets experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in capital markets analytics, trading strategies, and risk management techniques.
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret market data, including yield curves, credit dynamics, and relative value opportunities.
  • Experience applying data-driven insights to trading decisions and execution outcomes.
  • Proficiency with internal and external trading systems and tools, including Bloomberg and electronic trading platforms.
  • SIE, Series 7, 52, and 66 required (or obtained within 6 months depending on licensing windows).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience enhancing or working with electronic trading platforms, execution models, or systematic trading workflows.
  • Proficiency with data and analytics tools such as:
    • Excel (advanced)
    • Power BI / Tableau
    • SQL, Python, or other programming languages
  • Experience working with large datasets, trade analytics, or execution performance analysis (e.g., pricing, hit rates, transaction cost analysis).
  • Familiarity with pricing models, valuation frameworks, and risk analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements or automation opportunities within a trading environment.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (MBA, CFA, CFP, CPA or progress toward).

Schedule

Candidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office four days per week.
