Trader- Fixed Income Municipals

What is the opportunity?

As a Municipal Bond Trader for RBC Wealth Management, one of the nation’s largest full‑service investment firms, you will be responsible for trading (buying and selling) municipal bonds within assigned limits and generating sales commissions and trading revenue. You will market municipal bonds to the retail branch network, educate the sales force, provide training to Financial Advisors, and deliver fixed‑income services with a focus on clients’ best interests. The role also includes new‑issue oversight, ensuring regulatory compliance and correct ticket execution.

Responsibilities

• Trading and Execution: Bid and purchase municipal securities for inventory positions, create sales credit and trading revenue, manage associated risk, evaluate market information to obtain best prices, access and manage risk within assigned limits, and maintain departmental databases and processes.
• Idea Generation: Develop and distribute market‑condition ideas, create actionable concepts such as portfolio ladders, swap opportunities, and new‑money opportunities, and build relationships with the retail network through high‑level service.
• Collaboration: Work with various trading desks and traders to obtain market insight, develop trade ideas and cross‑product opportunities; partner with Business Development, Fixed Income Strategies, and other departments to deliver cohesive messages; provide backup for team members and support special projects.
• New Issue Process and Regulatory: Stay aware of changing compliance standards, maintain accurate records, and ensure all trades comply with regulations and policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience on a fixed‑income trading desk or marketing products and ideas to financial advisors.
• Demonstrated knowledge of fixed‑income markets, economics, marketing strategies, and other fixed‑income instruments.
• Series 7, 52, & 63 licenses.
• Excellent marketing and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with Bloomberg and other investment software packages.
• Experience with Tradeweb or other ECNs.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and manage varied tasks from multiple sources.
• Strong analytical skills to quickly assess market/economic conditions and offer creative solutions while meeting critical deadlines.
