About the Role
SmartStart Education seeks a Trade School Teacher's Assistant to work with high school students Monday - Friday from 8am to 2pm at a school near Albany, NY. The position begins as soon as possible and ends on June 25th, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Trade School teacher with the preparation and delivery of instructional materials and activities.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students needing extra help.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, labs, and off-site projects.
- Help students operate tools, equipment, and technology used in the Trade School program.
- Set up and organize classroom and lab equipment and materials.
- Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and stored properly.
- Support safety practices by monitoring student use of tools and enforcing safety rules.
- Assist with grading, record-keeping, and data entry under the direction of the teacher.
- Prepare instructional materials such as handouts, charts, and visual aids.
- Encourage student participation and help maintain a positive learning environment.
- Monitor student behavior and report concerns to the Trade School teacher or administration.
- Support students in developing soft skills, such as teamwork, time management, and workplace etiquette.
Requirements
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory. Applications with anticipated graduation dates will not be considered.
- Demonstrated experience of at least 6 months in working within a school environment or another learning and development setting.
- Experience in a classroom or technical/vocational setting highly preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
- Genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
- Familiarity with tools, equipment, and safety protocols in the assigned Trade School field.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
- Ability to manage time, multitask, and adapt to dynamic classroom environments.
- Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
- Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
- Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
- Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.
Pay
Hourly wage range: $17.49 to $19.43 per hour.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8am to 2pm.
