Tractor Trailer Driver

About the Role

Peterson Cat has a need for an experienced Tractor Trailer Driver at our Ridgefield, WA location. As a Tractor Trailer Driver, you will be responsible for deliveries and retrieval of rental equipment at customer sites using various delivery vehicles up to 98,000 lbs. G.V.W.R.

Responsibilities

• Operate, load, unload, secure, and transport rental equipment using delivery trucks and trailers.
• Follow delivery and pickup instructions from Dispatcher and/or Manager.
• Maintain a safe working environment and observe all company policies as well as Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
• Maintain an accurate Record of Duty Status log.
• Perform daily vehicle operational safety inspections in accordance with DOT regulations.
• Monitor, maintain, and inspect assigned delivery vehicles in accordance with manufacturer, company, and DOT guidelines.
• Ensure all required registrations, proof of insurance, permits, and inspection reports are current and valid.
• Deliver and retrieve equipment to and from customer sites.
• Inspect equipment for damage when picking up equipment from customers.
• Determine each customer's ability to use the equipment in a safe manner.
• Demonstrate use of rental equipment to customers.
• Track and maintain truck equipment inventory.
• Fuel, wash, maintain, and track usage hours of rental equipment as directed.
• Promote positive company image through professional conduct and truck appearance.
• Accurately relay customer concerns and feedback to the appropriate person.
• Complete all rental and related documents in an accurate and timely manner.
• Work on an "on call" 24/7 basis as required for emergency equipment deliveries.
• Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
• Work overtime as needed within labor law and DOT guidelines.
• Wear company-provided uniform when performing job functions.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
• Display excellent communication skills, including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation, required in working with customers and coworkers.
• Remain calm and courteous under pressure.
• Respectfully take direction from supervisor/manager.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and completion of a certified truck driver training program.
• Minimum of three (3) years of directly related commercial driving experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Must maintain updated knowledge of applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier regulations and requirements.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, electronics, gas machinery, and diesel machinery preferred.

Qualifications

• Must maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements.
• Current DOT Medical Certificate.
• Satisfactory driving record.
