Tractor Trailer Driver

About the Role

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for driving a tractor/trailer to move supplies and/or heavy equipment over state highways.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor/trailer.
• Load and unload equipment and supplies.
• Perform preventive maintenance servicing of assigned vehicle.
• Work as a member of a crew performing various duties as needed.
• Perform cleanup duties.
• Train other employees in the operation of commercial vehicles to prepare them for testing to obtain a commercial driver’s license.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient in the operation of a standard transmission vehicle.
• Experience operating tractor/trailer equipment.
• Valid Class A commercial driver’s license with tanker (“N”) endorsement.
• No “O” (no tractor-trailer) or “E” (no manual transmission equipped) restrictions on the commercial driver’s license, or must have the restrictions removed within 30 calendar days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to safely operate tractor/trailer equipment and heavy equipment.
• Ability to load and unload heavy equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, bags of sand, salt, glass beads, and paint drums.
• Demonstrated understanding of load securement.
• Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, and respond to official inquiries.
• Thorough familiarity with all state highway routes.
• Ability to climb, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Additional Information

A pre-employment drug/alcohol test will be conducted after a contingent offer of employment or transfer has been made. Internal applicants already in a safety-sensitive position will not be subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, but others will. Subject to additional drug/alcohol testing according to the provisions of the ARDOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.
