Tractor Technician Trainee

About the Role

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for gaining foundational knowledge of tools, equipment, shop safety, and J.B. Hunt Shop rules, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will learn to become efficient in air brake systems, FHWA inspections, and general repairs associated with them. This role may require working outdoors, in various weather conditions, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends, in addition to overtime. Full-time attendance is required.

Responsibilities

• Shadow a senior team member to learn repairs according to company and manufacturer specifications, complete work orders, and train to meet company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
• Understand and follow all shop safety procedures.
• Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers.
• Train to perform routine preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and basic repairs related to air brake systems and FHWA inspections.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 18.
• Willingness to work outdoors, in various weather conditions, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to fulfill physical requirements, including lifting/moving objects up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to multitask and read documents/information in English.
• Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic active listening, computer, deductive reasoning, organizational, and time management skills.
• Self-motivation.
