About the role
BART is seeking individuals who enjoy challenging work, operate heavy equipment, and contribute to the safety and reliability of the Bay Area's public transit system.
Responsibilities
- Operate and transport high-rail vehicles and specialized maintenance equipment.
- Support track crews with the removal and replacement of rails, ties, fastenings, switches, and turnouts.
- Clean and clear debris from tracks and associated wayside areas.
- Maintain clean and safe work sites and report needed maintenance or repairs.
- Read diagrams and specifications to determine appropriate measurements.
- Work independently and as part of a crew in time-sensitive conditions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One year of full-time equivalent track maintenance experience, including operation of heavy construction equipment.
- Class A driver's license within 60 days of employment.
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces, heights, and noisy environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain District certification to operate heavy equipment.

Pay
SEIU Salary Grade 301 Step 76 (Minimum) $42.72/hour - Step 99 (Maximum) $55.84/hour. External candidates will start at Step 76.
Schedule
This position involves working as part of a highly skilled Track Maintenance team responsible for construction, renewal, inspection, and repair of BART's rail infrastructure throughout the system. Work is performed in dynamic environments, often during non-revenue hours, requiring strict adherence to safety rules, roadway worker protection requirements, and regulatory standards.
