About the role

The Middle Trinity River Ecosystem Project Leader is responsible for managing and conserving the natural and cultural resources of Texas, providing hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The position oversees various Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) including Gus Engeling, Richland Creek, Trinity River, Big Lake Bottom, Keechi Creek, and Cedar Creek Islands.

Responsibilities

• Assists with habitat management, infrastructure maintenance, equipment maintenance, groundskeeping, public use, and research at designated WMAs.
• Collects and compiles biological data and assists with data analysis.
• Manages wildlife habitat and repairs/rebuilds infrastructure and complex equipment.
• Coordinates public hunting and other public use programs.
• Provides wildlife management information to hunters, land managers, user groups, and the general public.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• FWT IA: No experience required.
• FWT IB: Two years of relevant experience.
• FWT II: Four years of relevant experience.
• FWT III: Five years of experience as a TPWD Fish and Wildlife Technician II and capable of performing significant additional duties.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class 'A' Texas Commercial Driver's License or a Pesticide Applicator License.
• Additional qualifications may include a CDL license, Additional Duty Safety Officer (ADSO) certification, facility or equipment maintenance lead, construction lead, lead heavy equipment operator, and staff trainer.

• Ability to operate and maintain complex equipment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to coordinate and train staff.
• Experience with wildlife research and data analysis.
