Toxicologist

Overview We are seeking a Toxicologist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. Responsibilities Apply the principles of toxicology, risk assessment, clinical toxicology, occupational toxicology, and risk communication to assess the public health implications resulting from human exposure to hazardous chemicals. Assess the metabolic pathway interactions of metals, solvents and vapors, radiation and radioactive materials, pesticides, and other organic contaminants. Support the analysis of toxicological/environmental data associated with hazardous waste sites. Evaluate toxicological/environmental data for quality assurance/quality control, completeness, and relevance. Provide expertise to assess site-specific public health impacts of identified hazardous substances and to develop appropriate responses for health consultations requested by Federal, state and local agencies, and the public. Provide technical assistance and appropriate recommendations regarding potential human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure to hazardous substances. Assist with the development of public and petition health assessments. Attend technical assistance site visits and public meetings. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in toxicology, environmental health, public health, health sciences, or a related scientific field.Experience working in public health, health sciences research, and/or program evaluation and performance measurement.Desired experience working with CDC, federal agencies, or related public health entities.Knowledge of toxicology, risk assessment, clinical toxicology, occupational toxicology, and risk communication principles.Experience analyzing and evaluating toxicological and environmental data, including data associated with hazardous waste sites.Ability to assess potential human health impacts resulting from exposure to hazardous substances and provide appropriate technical recommendations.
